Ekhaya End TNM Super League Campaign with Convincing Win Over Mighty Tigers
Ekhaya FC wrapped up their TNM Super League of Malawi campaign in style with a composed 2–0 victory over Mighty Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Mpira Stadium.
In a match that marked the final day of the league season, the Cowboys delivered a confident performance, earning all three points courtesy of goals from Blessings Malinda and Clever Chikwata.
What happened
Both sides began the encounter with positive intent, showing good build-up play in the early exchanges but struggling to carve out clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities.
As the minutes passed, Ekhaya gradually settled into the rhythm of the game and began asserting dominance across the pitch.
The turning point came midway through the first half when Clever Chikwata showcased his pace and intelligence, winning a foot race down the left flank before being brought down inside the box. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Blessings Malinda stepped up with confidence and calmly slotted home the penalty in the 16th minute to hand Ekhaya a deserved lead.
Buoyed by the opener, Ekhaya took full control of proceedings. Right-back Hermas Masinja came close to doubling the advantage moments later, but his effort was brilliantly denied by the Tigers’ goalkeeper.
Chikwata continued to torment the defence, making another penetrating run on the opposite flank before delivering a dangerous low cross that flashed across goal, begging for a finishing touch.
Despite Ekhaya’s dominance, Mighty Tigers managed to head into the break only a goal behind.
Second Half Control
Seven minutes after the restart, Ekhaya made their superiority count. Showing immense work rate and determination, Chikwata dispossessed Alex Kambirinya before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2–0.
From that moment on, Ekhaya managed the game with maturity and composure.
While a third goal did not arrive, the team remained disciplined and controlled the tempo, seeing out the match with minimal pressure from the hosts.
What It Means
The victory sees Ekhaya conclude their debut TNM Super League season in 7th position, having accumulated 42 points from 30 matches, a commendable achievement in their first campaign at the top level.
For Mighty Tigers, the defeat marked their final appearance in the Super League following their relegation.
Coach’s Reaction
Speaking after the match, the coach praised his players for their resilience throughout the season:
“Congratulations to the boys for the win. Thank God we have survived, we are in the league next season.
It has been a season full of challenges. We were a better team in the first round, managing to finish fourth. We were very inconsistent in the second round, but we have learnt a lot.”
What’s Next
Although the league season has concluded, the journey continues for The Cowboys, who now turn their focus to the Castel Challenge Cup.
Ekhaya will kick off their cup campaign next weekend against Ntaja United at Balaka Stadium, aiming to carry forward the momentum from this strong league finish.
