Ekhaya Youth Show Grit in Narrow Win Over Agumbala FC

Ekhaya FC Youth had to dig deep to secure a narrow 1–0 victory over Agumbala FC in a tightly contested FCB Katswiri Youth U20 League encounter on Sunday morning at Kamuzu Stadium.

What happened

The young Cowboys started on the front foot, moving the ball confidently and pressing early in search of an opening. However, as the half progressed, Agumbala grew into the contest and began to enjoy sustained spells high up the pitch.

Their pressure nearly paid off when a powerful effort rattled the crossbar, sending a warning shot across the Ekhaya bow. Moments later, goalkeeper Joseph Maphedi was called into action, pulling off an excellent save to deny the hosts and keep the scores level.

Ekhaya Youth enjoyed periods of possession but found themselves operating mostly in their own half as Agumbala continued to ask questions.

Despite the intensity and end-to-end nature of the contest, neither side could find the breakthrough before the interval, and the teams went into the break locked at 0–0.

The second half resumed with Agumbala looking the more aggressive side, pushing numbers forward and forcing Ekhaya Youth to defend resolutely.

Their persistence earned them a penalty just past the hour mark, a moment that threatened to swing the game in their favour. However, the opportunity went begging as the spot kick was sent wide, a miss that proved pivotal.

Ekhaya Youth responded in the best possible fashion. Showing composure and quality in the final third, Precious Mvula produced a moment of magic, calmly finishing off a delicious delivery from Maxwell Simfukwe down the right-hand side to break the deadlock and silence the home support.

Buoyed by the goal, Ekhaya Youth grew in confidence and went in search of a second, launching a brief but threatening spell of attacking play. Agumbala, to their credit, regrouped and survived the pressure before mounting a late push for an equaliser.

In the closing stages, the hosts threw everything forward, but the Ekhaya Youth defence stood firm, showing maturity beyond their years to protect their slender advantage and grind out a valuable victory.

What it means
The win sees Ekhaya Youth move to 57 points, moving second on the league table as the title race intensifies.
