It’s a high-stakes showdown in the TNM Super League of
Malawi as third-placed Ekhaya FC welcome second-placed Mighty Wanderers to
Kamuzu Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
With just six points separating the two sides, this clash
promises fireworks. Ekhaya sit on 20 points after 11 games, while the visitors
boast 26 points from 10 outings, remaining unbeaten so far in the 2025
campaign.
Form Guide
Ekhaya have had a mixed run in their last five matches, 2
wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. That defeat came in their last outing, falling 1-0
to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. However, the hosts have not lost back-to-back matches
this season, a record they’ll be determined to protect.
On the other hand, Wanderers have been in scintillating
form, winning 4 and drawing 1 in their last five. Their impressive streak
includes a 1-0 win over the league leaders late May, a 3-0 thumping of Kamuzu
Barracks, and a convincing 2-0 win over Dedza Dynamos in June. Their northern
tour ended with a 1-1 draw against Karonga United before bouncing back with a
2-0 victory over Songwe Border United.
Tactical Battle
Wanderers have looked lethal from set-pieces, a department
where Ekhaya have shown vulnerability. The Cowboys will need to stay compact
and focused to withstand aerial pressure.
Ekhaya, however, remain resilient and have shown strong
character at home. Their only home defeat came last week, a 0-1 loss to league
leaders against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. This time around The Cowboys will be eyeing a
statement win against the high-flying Nomads.
Off the Pitch: A Family Affair
Adding spice to the clash is a unique backstory, the club
presidents are father and son. The father owns Mighty Wanderers while the son
is at the helm of Ekhaya FC. Sunday’s match is their first ever head-to-head
encounter.
From the Dugout
“It
will be a tough game, considering that they do not want to lose the grip at
top. Bullets and Wanderers are fighting for top spot, we are new in the league.
The pressure is on Wanders. If the lose or draw against Ekhaya they will lose
ground on Bullets.” - Coach Enos Chatama – Ekhaya FC
"My
players look ready for the Ekhaya match. We have trained adequately and our aim
is to come out of Kamuzu Stadium with three points on Sunday."- Coach
Bob Mpinganjira – Mighty Wanderers
Team News
The Cowboys will miss their captain Innocent Msowoya who
joins teammate Emmanuel Saviel on the sidelines.
Good news for us today is that defending midfielder Hadji James
returns after a two-week layoff.
