Coach Enos Chatama: Preseason Update

As preparations for the new season continue to gather momentum, the head coach has provided an update on the team’s progress, the integration of new players, and the role of preseason fixtures in shaping the squad.

On preseason work progress
Reflecting on the work done so far, the coach highlighted steady improvement across the group:

“We have seen clear progress. These tests have been good for the team, especially as we have brought in a lot of new players. We are trying different alternatives and combinations, using different players in different games. After this process, we will have a clear picture of how we want to start the season. All in all, the boys are responding well and improving in the physical aspect of the game. Come 25th April, we should be ready for the new season."

On the new crop of players coming in
Turning to the squad’s new additions, the focus remains on conditioning and cohesion:

“First of all, we need to bring them to full fitness and shape them. We now have depth and strength, and that will help us survive the season. Last season we lacked in many areas, we had a few good players, but this time we have a lot of good players.

All we need to do is blend them and nurture them according to the way we want to play, bringing them into our philosophy. We are building a strong team for the future.”

On the essence of friendlies & how other Super League teams are faring
With the team set for more friendlies  before the season starts later this month, the coach emphasised their value while keeping expectations measured:

“When teams play more preseason friendlies, it helps improve match fitness, but the dimension of these games and the strength of the league differ. What matters most is preparing well for the team we will face in the opening match. Friendlies are not a true reflection of how a team will start the season.”

On work to be done before the end of the season
Further addressing the squad depth, the coach underlined the importance of balance and the work that is there to be done before the season starts:

“We have to work on weak areas. We believe we will be ready  before the season starts. Gradually we are shaping up. I believe many of the players coming in are very good players. We still have the spine of the team, and some of the new arrivals will cover areas where we were lacking. If we blend them well, we will build a good team for the future.  A team with good number of players , what is called depth, has a lot chances to last the season."
