Ekhaya Reserve produced a devastating attacking performance in the ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League, cruising to a 9–1 victory over Ntopwa FC on Sunday morning at Kamuzu Stadium.
From the first whistle, the reigning champions showed their intent, and by full-time, they had delivered one of their most complete displays of the season.
What happened
Both sides came out with energy in the opening stages, but once Ekhaya found their rhythm, the breakthrough quickly followed.
Yusuf Nantunga opened the scoring with a composed finish, setting the tone for what would become a long morning for the visitors.
Moments later, Blessings Mofolo doubled the advantage, finishing calmly after a sweeping move. And by the 25-minute mark, the hosts were in full flow, Nantunga firing in his second to make it 3–0.
Ntopwa pulled one back in the 40th minute through Ellard Msosa, capitalising on a defensive slip. But any idea of a comeback was quickly extinguished.
League top scorer Samson Zakeyu restored the three-goal advantage on the stroke of halftime, rifling home to send Ekhaya to the interval with a commanding 4–1 lead.
Ekhaya made changes at the break to add fresh legs. Just 10 minutes into the second half, Mofolo grabbed his second to make it 5–1, and from there the floodgates opened.
The chances kept coming. The goals kept coming.
