Match Report| Ekhaya FC 1-1 Red Lions

Ekhaya FC were held to a 1-1 draw at Mpira Stadium by Red Lions FC in a match that swung from complete control to late pressure, leaving the Cowboys to settle for a point on home turf.

Blessings Malinda won us the opening half with a sumptous strike from outside the area but Kalisto Kaliwo equalized just after the hour mark.

How it unfolded
The Cowboys started the brighter of the two sides, immediately taking control of possession and setting the tempo. Allen Chihana had the first big chance of the game but was denied by a smart save from the Red Lions goalkeeper.

Ekhaya continued to dominate large spells of the first half, moving the ball well and creating repeated openings. Nonetheless, their inability to convert chances from Chihana and Lumbe kept the scoreline tighter than their performance suggested.

Eventually, sustained pressure paid off as the Cowboys broke the deadlock, going into halftime with a deserved lead. From outside the area Malinda took things in his own hands, firing from the outside the area past the keeper.

Lifted  by the opener we went ok to create more goal scoring opportunities but somehow the halftime arrived with the scores at 1-0.

After the restart, Ekhaya looked to build on their advantage but were unable to maintain the same intensity in front of goal.

Red Lions gradually grew into the match, becoming more organised and dangerous as the half progressed.

The visitors’ persistence shifted the momentum, and they eventually found an equaliser, turning the contest into a tense final phase.

From that moment, Red Lions looked the more likely to grab a winner, with Ekhaya forced to defend deeper and hold on for a point.

What it means
It’s now just one point from two matches for the Cowboys, following an opening-day defeat and this home draw. While there are encouraging spells of dominance, the results highlight a need for greater efficiency in key moments.

What next
Attention now shifts to a tricky away trip to Lilongwe, where Ekhaya FC face Civil United. The Cowboys will be aiming to bounce back and secure their first win of the season on the road.
