Ekhaya FC completed a TNM Super League double over Karonga United with a hard-fought 0–1 victory at the Karonga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
On his debut, Godswill Kanyika delivered the decisive moment, scoring the winner that handed The Cowboys a precious three points on the road.
How It Happened
Bright, intense start
The contest opened at a frantic tempo, with both teams battling for early control. While the tie was evenly balanced in the initial exchanges, Ekhaya showed greater hunger and created more meaningful inroads going forward.
On the flanks, Levie Mnyenyembe and Wongani Kaponya were constant threats, whipping dangerous deliveries into the box, opportunities that narrowly went unfinished.
Kanyika announces himself
Moments after the quarter-hour mark, Ekhaya won a free kick in a promising area. Debutant Godswill Kanyika stepped up and struck it with superb precision, guiding the ball home to mark his first appearance with a memorable goal.
Taking the lead only raised the intensity. Karonga United responded with a series of direct long balls into the box, forcing The Cowboys to defend deep for a spell. Despite being briefly pinned in their half, Ekhaya held firm and went into the break with their advantage intact.
Second-half resilience
After the restart, the hosts continued to push the narrative of the match, applying pressure and creating several moments of danger around the Ekhaya goal. The Cowboys, however, remained disciplined and organised, absorbing the waves of attacks.
On the counter, Ekhaya looked the more likely side to grab the game’s second goal, breaking with purpose whenever space opened up.
With the match entering its final stages, the technical bench introduced Vincent Salawira and Clever Chikwata.
The pair added fresh energy and defensive work rate, helping ensure the visitors closed out the contest with composure.
What It Means
The victory pushes Ekhaya FC to 39 points after 24 matches, lifting the side to 5th place in the TNM Super League standings.
From the Coach
“Very tough game, a win earned through perseverance and hard work from the boys. Karonga pushed from the first to the last minute.”
