Ekhaya FC Interim Head Coach Fundi Akidu offered a measured reflection following the narrow 1-0 defeat away to Civil Service United, highlighting both the positives in performance and the fine margins that ultimately decided the contest.
Despite controlling spells of the game, the visitors were once again undone by an early concession and a lack of cutting edge in front of goal, two themes the coach acknowledged must improve.
Still, Akidu remains confident that progress is being made, with belief that a single result could shift momentum and restore confidence within the squad.
On the overall match
“It was a good game,” he began, before pointing to the decisive moment. “What’s painful is that our habit of conceding early continues. Without that, it was a good performance. What hurt us most is our inability to find a goal.”
On conceding early goals
The early setback once again left Ekhaya chasing the game, a pattern the coach acknowledged has been difficult to shake.
“It’s something we’ve been talking about with the players. It’s not easy, but I believe with time things will change. The players understand that if we stop conceding unnecessary goals, we can get better results.”
On finishing in front of goal
Despite the result, chances came, but the finishing touch was missing.
“We are creating opportunities, but we must take them. Today we had chances and couldn’t convert. That’s something we’ll keep working on when we return to training.”
On the team’s current run
Attention now turns to response and belief, with the coach convinced a shift is close.
“We just need one win. If we win a game, the boys will start to believe in themselves again and it will change the atmosphere. We must accept that we are going through a difficult period.”
On looking ahead to Moyale:
Looking ahead to the next test, Akidu remains optimistic.
“The boys have learned a lot from these games. We have hope that things will change. I believe they will grow in confidence, and we will see better football.”
