Ekhaya FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mafco FC at Mpira Stadium, in a match that tested both their attacking intent and defensive resilience.
Seven minutes into the second half, Chimwemwe Chunga got on the scoresheet with a calm finish to score what turned out to be the match winner.
How it unfolded
The Cowboys asserted themselves early on, applying pressure and creating promising openings. Thanks to hurried strikes, the visitors remained level in the game.
Their persistence paid off as they edged ahead, taking a deserved 1-0 lead seven minutes into the second half. Released with an assist from Blessings Malinda, winger Chunga took a few touches before slotting it bottom-left of the net and handed us the lead.
Taking the lead never quite allowed The Cowboys to relax as The Soldiers held on firmly. We could not fully put the game to bed. Our end to the match turned to be mixed.
At times Ekhaya FC looked likely to find the second goal that would seal the result, yet they were equally vulnerable to a late equaliser from a determined Mafco FC side.
The visitors pushed forward in search of a late equalizer but Ekhaya’s defensive unit stood tall. At the heart of it was Happy Mphepo, who delivered a spirited and composed performance.
Time and again, he positioned himself perfectly to make vital interceptions, proving to be a true team player at the back. His efforts, alongside the defensive line, ensured the Cowboys held firm to secure a well-earned clean sheet an vital 1-0 triumph.

What it means
However narrow the margin, the victory lifts Ekhaya FC into the top four of the FDH Bank Premiership standings.
The Cowboys now sit 4th on 14 points from 8 matches, finding their rhythm again and moving to within three points of league leaders Silver Strikers.
History also repeated itself, as Ekhaya once again, just like last season, edged Mafco FC 1-0 at home.
Today was further evidence that the Soldiers remain a tough and stubborn opponent whenever the two sides meet.
